Other 1967 General Motors A-Body Muscle Cars

A few examples of the 'other' A-bodied cars offered by GM in 1967.

Pontiac Gran Turismo Omologato (GTO)

The GM Pontiac started the 'Muscle Car' craze in 1964 when they dropped a 389 cubic inch engine into the Lemans body and named the GTO - "Gran Turismo Omologato", translated into English "Grand Touring Homologated."

Oldsmobile 4-4-2

The Oldsmobile Division of GM had a '4-4-2' in 1964 with a 330 cubic inch engine it was hardly considered a Muscle Car. The '4-4-2' originally meant 4-barrel, 4-speed, dual (2)-exhaust. The '4-4-2' designation stayed but the engine size was increased to 400 cubic inches meeting the GM Corporate limit of 400 cubic inches or smaller in the A-body.

Buick Gran Sport

The Buick Division came in with their own 'Muscle Car' in 1965 and dubbed it the Gran Sport (GS). Buick managed to fudge a bit with the 400 cubic inch limit by using their existing 401 cubic inch engine. The engine name, The Wildcat 445, was confusing at first but it referred to the torque range and not the cubic inch displacement.
