Kelly's 1969 Chevelle of the Month - September 2013
This is what I was told about the car. The car came from Chatt, TN., where it was a frame off restoration in 2010. The owner took his 396 to an engine shop for a rebuild. The shop offered to sell him a built 427, with Howards roller cam/lifters & open chambers and take his 396 in trade. The block was decked, so do not have any info on engine numbers.
The 13637 VIN is a Malibu V8. No paperwork as to its being an SS
or not. The frame was cleaned and painted, a 1970 12- bolt, positraction
rear end with Moser axles, put in place behind a 700R4 with shift kit.
The rear end, coils, boxed trailing arms, most anything that could be
removed from the frame was powder coated in lieu of paint. The sheet
metal is all original with original stamped identification numbers in
the rear quarters. Four-wheel, slotted and drilled, power disc brakes
provide the whoa. For the go, Hedman headers and FlowMasters provide
the music for the hard hitting cam.
The car was painted Audi Brilliant Red, colored sanded to perfection
with very nice gaps on the sheet metal. All new everything was put in,
interior and exterior, glass, rubber, wiring, chrome trim, wheels, etc.,
and bumpers replated.
In early 2013, the car was bought by a man in Dawsonville, GA., trailered
to a shop in Cumming that specializes in building Super Chevy winning
Camaros and Chevelles. They added Vintage Air, some more new interior
and exterior pieces, and detailed the car top to bottom for Chevy High
Performance show in May in Commerce Ga. It was driven there, about 50
miles, and still received a top 20, against mostly trailered cars. It
has been shown 1 other time, and still has under 300 miles since final
detailing.
I bought the car in July 2013 and drive it every weekend it's not raining
to show or just for fun. In my area of the country, Chevelle SSs, like
this do not come up for sale too often and I feel lucky to have this
one. I have turned down several offers for it at its last show.
