Roger's 1969 COPO Chevelle of the Month - October 2013
Back in the day, I knew nothing about "COPO" but was well
aware that "performance cars" modified by Dick Harrell Performance
Center were sold via Bill Allen Chevrolet in NKC, Missouri.
August 19, 1969 - I spotted a bright orange Chevelle on Bill Allen's
lot while on my way to work so I pulled in to check it out. Details
in the Dick Harrell "MSRP" (window sticker) that was taped
to the driver side window that day made me smile just thinking of the
possibilities. A couple of hours later, I drove this Harrell modified
COPO Chevelle on to work. I saved the original documents from that day
not realizing just how significant they would be over 40 years later.
In May 1970, I met a pretty girl named Karen Boulton during a Memorial
Day gathering of friends at Jim Fansher's home place in Trimble Mo -
three weeks later we were engaged.
Memorial Day 2011, we celebrated that 1970 event with our children and
four grandchildren - our first ride in that same old Chevelle after
restoration was almost complete - 41 years later to the day.
