Shawn's Chevelle of the Month - October 2015
This is my 1965 Chevelle 300 Deluxe. I purchased this car in January of 1993 with intentions of quickly dropping in a 396 and just making a fun driver out of it. Well, life kind of got in the way with the purchase of a new house, job change and the addition of two sons so the car got pushed to the back burner. Even though the car was sitting, I never lost interest in the car and continued to pick up a few parts here and there.
Fast forward to 2007, my sons were now old enough to help with the car so the decision was made to build the car. The body was sent to Clean Cut Creations in St Louis for body work and paint. The exterior was painted Porsche Cordoba red metallic and the interior sheet metal was painted Volkswagen Polar silver metallic. While in the body shop, a 496 short block was purchased from Blueprint Engines. My son Brad and installed a Lunati Voodoo cam and then topped the short block with a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads, an Edelbrock air gap intake and an 850 Demon carb. After the car returned home, we installed the 496 along with a Muncie M20 4 speed transmission and a Moser 9" rear with 3.50:1 gears. Wilwood brakes were installed on the front and 11" drum brakes on the rear.
After the mechanical work was done, my son Jake and I rebuilt the interior in the original fawn color using a PUI interior kit. Coys wheels were added wrapped in Firestone rubber. My sons and I had a blast building this car together and are still having fun driving and showing it as often as we can.
