Herb's 1964 Chevelle of the Month - October 2020

I had been attending local car shows for years and hardly ever saw a 64. I had a real junker when I was a teenager that I cut up to build into a dirt track car. I decided I wanted a 64 to restore back to original. After a year or so search I found this one on line. Most of the cars I found were already heavily customized or complete ground up restorations. Anyway this car was practically a survivor except for a 10 year old paint job "Original Daytona Blue." In the spring of 2019, after a ten hour one way drive from home, I was able to cut a deal and I brought it home on a U-Haul trailer.

I spent the next few months getting it drivable and replacing anything worn or rusted. Everything from brakes to ball joints, wiper motor to tail lamps. I did take it to a regional AACA event and brought home a third place trophy for the 60-66 class. Since then I have spent the winter bringing everything back up to new "but original" mostly interior parts lamps and trim. A lot of painting, polishing, and scrubbing. I believe the car is as good now as it was new but somehow I still find things to do to it . My wife and I enjoy date night cruising in it and I want to take it to another AACA event to see how I have done with the restorations.
