It would take more than a few hours to really look over this piece of artwork and appreciate the workmanship that has gone into this gorgeous 1966 El Camino.  Owned by John and Mary Bedenbender of Texas, at first glance it looks like a nice, black El Camino that a couple of things don't look quite right.  Getting past the flawless black paint on an arrow-straight body leads you to drool over the billet machine work and engineering involved in this car.

The engine compartment is probably the first thing to catch your eye. Air cleaner, homemade. Overflow cans, homemade. Valve cover hold-downs that span the top/bottom of the big block valve covers, homemade. Master cylinder cover, homemade. Hose clamps, homemade. There are just so many custom touches under the hood that some escape your attention until you've looked two or three or four times; even custom hooks for the hood springs to ensure you don't have the hood fall on you while you're admiring all the work.

Then you move to the interior. The same attention to detail and custom work is see everywhere here as well.  The dash, pedals, steering column collar, console, doors, seats, even plates under the dash to clean up the appearance. The ~smuggler's box~ in the bed hasn't been neglected either.

Check the two photos of the rear tailgate. Absolutely no distortion or waviness in the sheet metal reflections. This car was judged 998 of 1000 points. It's easy to see why. If you ever get the chance to see this car at a local show or another regional/national Chevelle show, set aside some time to admire the craftsmanship. You won't regret it!
