Identifying a 1968 Z28 Special Engine Camaro
Chevrolet sold 7,199 Z28 Special Engine 1968 Camaros or only about 4% of the 1968 model year production. More information on the 1968 Camaro Special Engine option can be found in the GM Information Kit beginning on page 61.
The Z28 stripes consist of two wide stripes that extended from the front
header panel across the hood and onto the low spots on the cowl vent
panel. These stripes were also located from part of the rear window
panel across the deck lid and rear spoiler (if the car had a spoiler).
Front and rear spoilers were optional under RPO D80.
Beginning in March, the "302" fender badge was changed to "Z/28"
Base Z28/302 engine featured chrome air cleaner lid, rocker arm covers,
oil filler tube and cap.
An optional air cleaner plenum could be ordered over the counter by
any enthusiast. The part numbers required are shown below
Z28/RS Combination
When both the RS and Z28 options are combined, the RS the RS features
like hide-away headlamps, rear taillights, back-up lights, etc. are
featured and a "rally sport" nameplate added to the front
fenders.
