Special Paint Fisher Body Number Plates
May 27, 2014:
This 1970 sport coupe tag from the Arlington, TX. plant is kind of
unusual. One can assume it was ordered as a special paint car
in the 1969 color of Daytona Yellow, The paint code of 51 (and note
there's only one paint code, not the normal lower and upper codes).
Instead of using the DuPont paint code of 926-99568 like the Van
Nuys plant would use, they chose to show code 51. While no build
sheet has been found, one could also assume there was a notation for
the color and since it was a solid yellow, the person stamping the
trim tag simply used on code. Paint code 51 is a 1970 Oldsmobile
code for Sebring Yellow.
This particular car is listed in my LS6 Registry.
September 8, 2014:
Another variation has been brought to my attention. This time a 1970
Van Nuys El Camino with a paint code of 926-BM865. Appears to
be some shade of blue.
July 5, 2015:
Another variation of "926-BM865 - " has been brought to my
attention. Again, a 1970 El Camino from Van Nuys.
September 22, 2017:
While attending a
Midwest Chevelle Regional Show in Nebraska hosted by the Heartland
Chevelle Club, I ran across this 1972 base Chevelle with the paint code
47 47 which is a Corvette Elkhardt Green. A couple of unique things
with this car aside from it being a base Chevelle sport coupe (13437).
According to its build sheet, this is just one of several units of this
color and trim ordered from the Kansas City Leeds plant with a note that "ALL
UNITS MUST BUILD WEEK OF 4-114-72." Note the 1972 Buick-style vinyl
top application with a Chevelle BY CHEVROLET emblem and just above that
a second plate with "CUSTOM ORDER."
January 17, 2024: This Van Nuys convertible is another example with
a paint code of 114.
The research continues - if anyone can assist or if you have a trim tag with a strange paint code, please contact me.
