Part number listings ceases in the late 1969 model year. Delco Radio adopted a standardized coding for the GM model line radios.
Identification Key:
First character in the model year of the radio:
8=1968, 9=1969, 0=1970, 1=1971, and 2=1972
Second character is the car line:
1=Chevrolet, 2=Pontiac, 3=Oldsmobile, 4=Buick, 5=Cadillac,
and 6=GMC
Third character is a letter that corresponds to the Fisher Body
style:
A=Midsize, B=Full-size, C=More than full-size (i.e., Cadillac
Fleetwood C-body, D=Rear control (Cadillac Limo), E=Toronado &
Rivera, F=Pony car
G=Grand Prix, Monte Carlo G-Body, H=Subcompact, V=Corvette,
X=Compact, Z=Corvair
The fourth and fifth characters indicate the ratio type:
PB = Push Button, FP=AM/FM Mono, FM=AM/FM w/Stereo, K=Fader
control, MP=FM Multiplex adapter, TX=Stereo Tape Player,
RV=Reverberation Amp,
FW=AM/FM/Weather Band, and MW=AM/FM w/Stereo/Weather band.
In 1970, integrated AM and AM/FM w/stereo & 8-track became available. This added a third letter tot he code "T" so you might see "AMT" or "FMT." In 1970 there were many AM - 8 track combos sold as FM stations were still rare in many parts of the country.
Last, there may be a "1," or "2" at the end of a part number indicating a running revision change
The ultimate in stackable units was reached in the late 1970s with the model "(part number) + BFTC1" which was an AM/FM w/stereo and 8 track and CB radio unit in three pieces. The radio went in the normal dash location and a CB unit which contained the transceiver electronics and a control head/microphone.
