Georgia appears to use the original VIN when applicable but they include their own control number.

Unable to confirm procedure for obtaining a new VIN plate but, at least for this
1966 Chevelle, the vehicle identification number issued included the series/body
style (13817) but note the final assembly plant identification is missing and
sequence number appears to be a state number.
Anyone with detailed information from the Georgia DOT to obtain a state-issued VIN, please contact me.
