Engine Compartment

As you may have gathered by now, the most important feature of my car that makes it unique is the engine. The engine is RPO code L79 which in 1965 meant a 350hp 327ci motor. This small block screams and mine is in top shape. It has received a complete mechanical, cosmetic and detailed restoration along with the rest of the car. The photos on this page offer a view of the motor during the restoration which offers a little better view of all the engine details since the bodywork doesn't get in the way.

Front shot, take notice of the original chrome fuel lines and fuel pump.

A passenger site front shot. The L79 exhaust manifolds are the same as all other 327 Chevelle manifolds contrary to popular belief. The L79 got bigger exhaust pipes (2 1/2 inch head pipes, 2 inch tail pipes) but the manifolds were the same. The plug wires are original equipment style wires made by Packard and are date stamped.

Front shot with the air cleaner removed. Doesn't this motor look like all business? The mix of Chevy orange, silver aluminum manifold and gold carb really look nice.

Rear drivers' side, note the "OK" stamps on the alternator diodes.

Rear passenger side with the air cleaner off. You can really see how the coil is fit in here. Due to the large air cleaner, the coil was laid horizontal and mostly parrallel to the carb base. On standard small blocks the coil was mounted mostly vertical beside the distributor. Having the coil in this spot made the engine hard to tune so the bracket was usually taken off, thrown away and the coil was mounted to the firewall. I have my bracket of course!
