This 5x8 pocket guide is an invaluable resource of information and covers all models (300, 300 Deluxe, Malibu, Malibu SS, SS396) and body styles (sedans, station wagons, sport coupes, convertibles, and sedan pickups) of Chevelle from 1964 through 1972 with 238 pages of color photos, facts on production numbers of each model in each year, interior trim codes, colors and availability for each year, engine codes, rear end axle codes, and a whole lot more. |
This book covers the two SS options, SS 396 and SS 454, and what those two options came with as standard equipment and what was available as options. My 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS book is the first in a series of MUSCLE CARS IN DETAIL by Car Tech Books of muscle cars of the era. Over 100 color and b/w photos of the cars, interiors, engines, and various options are found in this 6x9 guide. Facts are shown with documented proof and many, many myths and misconceptions are dispelled. Included are some rare photos of several design concepts and options contemplated for the 1970 Chevelle from GM's archives. Two of the eras most successful quarter-mile race cars are highlighted, the Ray Allen driven, Truppi/Kling tuned LS6 convertible that dominated SS/EA drag racing and the SuperBird from Chrysler with a 512-cubic inch "cheater" engine expressly built to taking out the Chevelle. Also highlighted is Bob Hamilton's well-known "Red Alert" LS6 sport coupe. This SS/DA Chevelle actually started life as a present for Mr. Hamilton's wife with options like power windows, vanity mirror, AM/FM stereo tape player and tilt steering column before finding its way to the drag strip. |
Chevrolet's Chevelle introduction into the growing midsize car market was met with great acceptance. The "Super Sport" nameplate was synonymous with Chevrolet and the Chevelle enhanced it from 1964 through 1972. Around 3,874,500 Chevelles were built for U.S. sale during this time. Of these, 554,695 were ordered as Malibu SS, SS396, or SS-equipment-optioned Chevelles. One secret to the Chevelle's success was the multiple series and body styles that were available to fit just about anyone's needs. |
Co-authored with Rick Nelson of MuscleCar Restoration and Design. Rick is a recognized LS6 Chevelle expert and his shop turns out some of the finest 1970 LS6 Chevelle restorations in the country. Whether your goal is a nice daily driver, weekend cruiser and local car show entrant or a full blown Concours restoration, this book is filled with details on how to restore your 1970-1972 Chevelle from a checklist of important things to look for with the original purchase to correct plating, painting, decals/stickers, etc. are here. Plant differences, engine, transmission, and rear end differences, all are detailed here in 239 pages. |
This book covers the SS-optioned 1969 Chevelle. My 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 book has over 100 color and b/w photos of the cars, interiors, engines, and various options in this 6x9 guide. The 1969 model year is the ONLY year the SS396 was offered with any series except the Malibu series; for this year only the SS396 equipment option was available on the 300 Deluxe coupe (13427) and 300 Deluxe sport coupe (13437) as well as the 13637 Malibu sport coupe, 13667 Malibu convertible, and 13680 sedan pickup. Two SS-only special colors were available, Monaco/Hugger Orange and Daytona Yellow as an option; even on the SS396 Chevelles these two colors were an additional cost option. Facts are shown with documented proof and many, many myths and misconceptions are dispelled. Included are some rare photos of several design concepts and options contemplated for the 1969 Chevelle from GM's archives. |
