1970 Chevelle Prop Shaft Colors

These broadcast codes were taken from valid build sheets. Plants did not use the same broadcast codes, the plants are listed separately. The Arlington plant data is very limited and Flint is non-existent due to lack of build sheets so only Atlanta, Baltimore, Kansas City, and Van Nuys are listed. Chevrolet calls these a propeller shaft, you may know them better by their commonly called name, a "drive shaft."

If your drive shaft still has its colors, be sure to measure just where they are and the colors involved so you can reproduce them on your refinished product. The placement, stripe width and spacing may vary from propeller shaft to propeller shaft, even for the same engine/transmission combination from the same plant. As you can see from the top photo below, these were not painted with regards to 'looking nice,' but rather to boldly show the colors. Only the (in this case) blue and pink are shown on the build sheet as broadcast code PK-BL The third, orange stripe, is though to indicate a 396/454 engine as opposed to a 307/350 engine. To date a third orange stripe has not been found on a 307-350 Chevelle. VIN search disclaimer This Chevelle website is not designed to help you locate a car you owned 20-30 years ago. To my knowledge there is no known database of a car's VIN and its past/current owner. Such a public database would be a gross invasion of privacy. Law enforment agencies can run a VIN in most cases to find the current owner but can only do so legally as part of any police action such as a suspected stolen car or one that has been in an accident to verify the owner. They CANNOT, legally, do a VIN search for personal reasons such as a favor to a friend.

Data presented here has been gathered from various websites, knowledgeable car owners, and GM's "Information Kits." I have found several differences on numerous websites, particularly in sales quantity and pricing.
