Generator (Alternator - Group 2.275) - Regulator↓
The date code on a generator is simple to decode. It includes the year, month and day such as 7K25. This decodes to 1967, October, 25th. Month codes are A through M for January through December (omitting the letter 'I').
A - January | D - April | G - July | K - October |
B - February | E - May | H - August | L - November |
C - March | F - June | J - September | M - December |

When mounting on 1964-1968 Chevelles, the 'clocking' of the generator
is important. The electrical connections should be at the 3 o'clock
position.
A Very common error is mounting the 1966-1968 generator. The adjustment
brace goes behind the mounting location on the alternator and the bolt
and washers are attached from the rear.
The one exception is the L79 engine. Note there are two adjustment braces, both attach to the front of the generator and the bolt and washers also attach to the front. The rearmost brace is supplied from the engine plant and are painted orange while the front brace is supplied by the final assembly plant and is painted black.
Voltage Regulator (Group 2.500)
Chevrolets used basically the same voltage regulator until 1971 when all GM alternators used integral voltage regulators. Delco-Remy merged with AC-Delco around 1973-1974. Early over-the-counter regulator boxes had both the GM Group Number and GM Part Number such as Group 2.500 and 1119515. Later over-the-counter regulator boxes had the aftermarket designation part number D635 along with the GM part number 1119515. Just when these changes occurred isn't known. (Click a regulator image to enlarge.)
Part number 1116378 was used with the transistor ignition option.
Part number 1111915 was used from 1962 through 1972 for all except those optioned with the 63 amp alternator.

There is a date code stamped on the regulator mounting surface. This code is the year and month. The example here, 5D, is 1965 - April.
