Generator (Alternator - Group 2.275)

 

The date code on a generator is simple to decode. It includes the year, month and day such as 7K25. This decodes to 1967, October, 25th. Month codes are A through M for January through December (omitting the letter 'I').

When mounting on 1964-1968 Chevelles, the 'clocking' of the generator is important. The electrical connections should be at the 3 o'clock position.

A Very common error is mounting the 1966-1968 generator. The adjustment brace goes behind the mounting location on the alternator and the bolt and washers are attached from the rear.

The one exception is the L79 engine. Note there are two adjustment braces, both attach to the front of the generator and the bolt and washers also attach to the front. The rearmost brace is supplied from the engine plant and are painted orange while the front brace is supplied by the final assembly plant and is painted black.
