Chevelle Bucket Seat Trim
A common error with many 'restorers' and home builders with Chevelle bucket seats is to use the complete kit most aftermarket suppliers sell. Chevelles almost never used the bright trim on the bottom of the seat but since the suppliers sell the kits to fit any particular year GM bucket seats, Chevelle owners use the entire kit. Granted, it does look better (my personal opinion) but they are not correct.
The one exception is the 1968 model year when Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac replacement black bucket seats were used. Those three GM brands did have the bright trim along the bottom portion of the seat. Examples shown here are 1970 and 1968.
Correct bucket seat trim.
Incorrect bucket seat trim.
The only exception is the 1968 model year. Due to a labor dispute with the interior supplier of black interiors from March through July when Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac black bucket interiors were used.
Incorrect 1968 Chevelle black bucket seat trim.
This particular interior is from a 1968 Pontiac and is one of the replacement black bucket
seats.
