How do I register my car?

Click the floating Register link on the right, select the year, fill in the form, and submit the required photos.

How can I find a specific VIN?

On 1964 Malibu SS Chevelles, the model year designation is the first character of the VIN, such as "45837K123456"; on 1965 through 1971 VINs the model year is the 6th character, such as "138375K123456"; on 1972 through 1973 the Malibu series is designation by the second character (the letter "D") in the VIN such as "1D37H2L567890." Once you know that you can click the year at the top of the home page. VINs are listed by assembly plant then in numerical order. From 1964 through 1967 the VIN plate is attached to the driver's side A-pillar between the door hinges. From 1971 through 1973 the VIN plate is attached to the driver's side front of the dash and is visible from outside the car looking through the windshield.

Why isn't the entire VIN displayed in some cases ?

Some submitters/owners prefer the entire VIN for their Chevelle not be displayed and I honor that request and 'x' out the last two or three digits.

Who manages the VIN information?

I have full control over this website and its contents. The data are not shared with ANY outside organization. Data that verifies the car to be a SS is kept offline. If/when someone inquires about a particular car I forward that inquiry to the registered owner on file. It is up to that registered owner whether or not they contact the person making the inquiry.

When is the site updated?

Hopefully as frequently as data arrives and usually new information is posted within a day or two. Due to the possibility of me being gone for a few days for vacation, car shows, etc. it may take more time.

Is it illegal to sell a VIN plate or trim tag?

Yes it is illegal to sell, buy, or offer for sale a VIN plate that has been removed from the vehicle. To my knowledge Oklahoma is the only state that also makes it illegal to sell, buy, or bring into the state a trim tag that has been removed, altered, or reproduced (without the trim tag being stamped a reproduction). This state law has been in effect since November of 2007.

The image below, image dated January 12, 2016, is an example of what is not legal. I blacked out the pertinent information on the title whereas the seller did not.
