The 265cid V8 engine was introduced in 1955. Variations of this same basic engine design would continue into the 70s reaching a size of 400 cubic inches.
The unique, and high priced, Nomad 2-door station wagon. Originally a 1954 Corvette concept car introduced at the GM Motorama the 1955 Chevrolet Nomad production unit saw it built on a full-size Chevrolet platform and 8,530 were built. Nicely restored to original conditioned Nomads can easily reach high 5-figure prices today. Note the special bright vertical trim on the lower tailgate exclusive to the Nomad. This trim would continue for all three years of the Nomad's production run.
Two-tone paint schemes were introduced in 1955 with 28 different combinations possible.
The V8 powered 1955 could be distinguished by a "V" emblem
below each tail lamp, the L6 engines did not get this "V" emblem.

Since the V8 engine was shorter than the L6 engine, the V8 radiator
was located behind the core support where the L6 radiator was located
in front of the core support.
