1970 Corvette Photo Gallery

The 1970 model year saw several small styling changes. The front and rear wheel openings were slightly flared in the rear to reduce stone chipping and the four side fender gills were replace with egg-crate vents. The 427-cid engine was replaced with the new 454-cid engine but with reduced horsepower available. A new small block 350-cid engine was introduced with the RPO L71 and was rated at 370hp. The RPO ZR1 option included the L71 engine, M22 Muncie H.D. 4-speed transmission, H.D. power brakes, transistor ignition, special suspension, and an aluminum radiator with fan shroud. The labor dispute in May of 1969 that caused the 1969 model year to be extended naturally cut into the 1970 production number and only 17,316 1970 Corvettes were built as a result.

The ZR2 package like the ZR1, but with a 460hp (also listed as 465hp), 454-cid engine was planned and advertised for 1970, but not delivered to retail customers. Previously optional tinted glass, Positraction axle, and 4-speed wide ratio manual transmission were included in the 1970 base price.

All engine suffix codes now sported a 3-letter suffix. It's interesting to note the RPO LS6 engine being rated at 460-hp in the AMA specifications never saw production in the 1970 model year Corvette leaving the LS6 engine only available in the Chevelle with a horsepower rating of 450. All 454 engines have orange painted rocker arm covers.

>> RPO C08 was only available in black.
>> Convertible folding tops were black (standard), white and sandalwood being optional.
>> Black was not a standard color choice for 1970 although it could be special ordered via the Fleet & Special Order (F&SO) process.
