Have a question? Please submit your question(s) here on my contact page.
Q: How many 1964 300 wagons were painted
red?
A: Although the number of 300 wagons that were
built in 1964 (both L6 and V8) are known (2,710) and the number
of 1964 Chevelles reportedly painted red (932/V Ember Red) 17,022,
to date nobody has seen a breakdown of how many of any body style
or series were painted a particular color.
Note: The same
answer applies to the 1965 model year as well.
Q: How many 1964 300 wagons sere sold
with a V8 engine?
A: GM's records indicate that of the
2,710 1964 300 wagons, 1,001 were V8 and 1,609 were 6-cylinder.
Any 6-cylinder and any 8-cyinder engine available at the time could
be ordered. There is no known breakdown of how many of what specific
engines were sold in 300 wagons.
Note: The same answer applies
to the 1965 model year as well just with different overall numbers.
Q: My 65 has a 283 and 4-speed. How
many were made with this combination?
A: Unfortunately
GM only reported the number of individual options, not combinations
such as a 283-2 with a 4-speed transmission. For most options they
could be ordered in any body style and any series so an 'option'
like the 283-2 engine (which was the base engine on all V8 series)
shows 234,676 V8 series Chevelles sold. Since several 327 engines
were also available at an extra cost, one can calculate the number
of 283-2 V8s sold. GM's records indicate that 55,875 327 engines
were optioned leaving 178,801 283-2 engines sold in 1965. Additionally
39,092 RPO M20 4-speed transmissions were sold but, again, no breakdown
of what V8 engines those were sold with.
Note:
GM's Information
Kit shows the 283-4 engine in its Power Teams matrix
and its options list, to date no sales figures have shown up for
this engine (RPO L77) for 1965.
