Notes/Caveats for 1964 Chevelles:
* Only the Fremont, CA.
assembly plant used letters for the paint codes, all other U.S.
assembly plants use a 3-digit number. Fremont also often
included a third letter indicating the wheel color. Normally the
wheel color was dependent on whether optional full wheel covers
were ordered. In the case of optional wheel covers being
ordered, the wheels were painted black. When no optional full
wheel covers were ordered and the car was equipped with hub caps
(often referred to as 'dog dish' or 'poverty' caps) the wheels
were painted lower body color. At least one exception has been
found on a Fremont Fisher Body Number plate with a Malibu SS
(which would have full wheel covers) showing paint code of FCF.
** The color sales name was often unique to Chevrolet. Other GM
divisions with the same paint code often used different sales
names for the same color. For example, Chevrolet's Ermine White
was Buick's Arctic White, Chevrolet's Ember Red was Buick's
Granada Red, etc. Same paint colors, different sales names for
their respective division.
*** Figures are from GM's own
documentation. There is not a breakdown of color vs. series/body
style; the figures are for all 1964 Chevelles.
**** Several
Fremont, CA. Fisher Body Number plates have been discovered with
color code "FCF." Other two-tone color differences may have
occurred at the Fremont assembly plant as well.

Notes/Caveats for 1965 Chevelles:
* Paint code
designations were standardized to two letters, the first being
the lower body color and the second being the upper body color
such as "AA" or "CC." Convertibles and vinyl top optioned
Chevelles will have a number as the second paint character
noting the convertible or vinyl top color as applicable such as
"A2" for Tuxedo Black lower body color and black convertible or
vinyl top. Fremont often had a third paint letter to designate
the wheel color. Fremont also often included a third letter
(such as LL L, CK A, etc. indicating the wheel color. Normally
the wheel color was dependent on whether optional full wheel
covers were ordered. In the case of optional wheel covers being
ordered, the wheels were painted black. When no optional full
wheel covers were ordered and the car was equipped with hub caps
(often referred to as 'dog dish' or 'poverty' caps) the wheels
were painted lower body color.
** The color sales name was often unique to Chevrolet. Other GM
divisions with the same paint code often used different sales
names for the same color. For example, Chevrolet's Ermine White
was Buick's Arctic White, Chevrolet's Ember Red was Buick's
Flame Red, etc. Same paint colors, different sales names for
their respective division.
