Do not confuse the Fisher Body Number plate information with that found on the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plate.

Position 1: Body assembly date of vehicle.

This production date of 8B decodes to August (8) in the second week (B).
Unfortunately, nobody can define what dates are associated with a week letter.

Positions 2/3: STYLE, year, series

The word STYLE is followed by the two-digit number 59 for 1959 and the particular series designation.

Positions 4/5: BODY, assembly plant, body sequence number

The word BODY is followed by a two-letter code for the assembly plant followed by the sequential number for that particular style number at that plant for 1959.

The word TRIM is followed by a 3-digit number for the interior trim code.

Positions 8/9: PAINT, paint code number

The word PAINT is followed by the 3-digit number for the exterior paint code. Some plants may use a letter designation of A or B for single color (A) or two-tone (B).

Positions 10/11: ACC., accessory code letters

The abbreviation ACC for Accessory. These were coded to indicate certain modifications needed to be made by Fisher Body to accommodate certain options the car may be equipped with. Research is ongoing to discover as many of these accessory codes that might be available for the El Camino.
