1970 Chevelle Tire Pressure Label

The tire pressure label was affixed to the driver's side front door shown in the above image as item #1. The tire pressure label displays the recommended front and rear tire pressure both when cool and when hot.

In the following tables taken from over 1,300 1970 build sheets. Several broadcast codes are used for multiple regular production option (RPO) tires. For example, Atlanta shows three (3) label codes and all three for the same tires. I attempted to discern why (for example) a BC code for an F70x14 white stripe and codes BD and EZ are used for the same tire. Was it engine/transmission based? Was it air condition vs. non-air condition? Was it SS-optioned Malibus or non-SS optioned? Was it sport coupe vs. convertible/sedan/wagon/sedan pickup? I found almost no difference in any option, group of options, or body style that would affect the car's weight to discern why two or more codes were used for the same tire.

So, when it comes time to replace your tire pressure label, see which one or ones are appropriate. Fair warning, many aftermarket suppliers sell a DW and AO coded labels as applicable for a 1970 Chevelle - they are NOT. There is no reason to put an incorrect tire pressure label on your Chevelle. With that, I present my findings in the tables below.

Caveat: More Tire Pressure Labels may exist and those listed may have been used on additional engines and/or body styles. The above are a compilation of over 600 1970 build sheets. Remember too that white stripe, red stripe, and raised white letter tires were optional on many series/body style/engine.

For example: Tire Pressure Label PY4 may be shown on one plant for an L48 engine Malibu sport coupe where it's possible it could also be with an L65 engine or a Malibu convertible or sedan. I just do not a build sheet to prove any other engine or body style.
