The 1972 model year continued the nameplates from 1971. The vehicle identification number (VIN) format changed for 1972 and now included the engine size with a letter.
The base Nomad wagon changed from 131/13236 to 1B36.
The Greenbrier wagon and Chevelle changed form 133/134xx to 1Cxx.
The Concours wagon and Malibu changed from 135/136xx to 1Dxx.
The Concours Estate wagon and Monte Carlo changed from 138xx to 1Hxx.
