Many people wish to put a face to the person offering information. So, here I am.
My Chevelle History
My passion for classic Chevelles dates back to December 1967 when I purchased my first Chevelle; a black sport coupe with black bucket seats, L34 350hp, M21 Muncie 4-speed, and 4.10:1 rear end gears.
My best and longtime friend owned a 1966 Chevelle SS396
at the time. These photos were taken in December of 1967. My second Chevelle was this 1969 300 Deluxe coupe with the Z25, SS396 option. Typical of the time, life began to happen in earnest. I started a family and reenlisted in the military. After my military service I began looking for another 1967 Chevelle and found this in Dallas, TX. Apparently the current owner has loaned a friend some money and took the car as collateral. Neither party wanted the car so in September of 1986 I gingerly drove the car home to Lawton, OK from Dallas. I say gingerly because the shifter was so sloppy that I had a choice of 1st and 2nd gear or 3rd and 4th gear to make the 150+ mile drive home. Getting out of Dallas and onto the highway was challenging and aside from a couple of toll booth stops, the drive wasn't bad. Whatever was left of the clutch facing was completely gone by the time I arrived home. So the first chore was to drop the transmission and replace the clutch and cover. Replacing the old Muncie linkage was done at the same time with a new Hurst Competition Plus. See more at my personal website. More in this stage More in this stage The car went through two major rebuilds. The first in 1987 to the configuration shown above and was strictly my daily driver for about 12 years and a frequent attendee at local car shows. The paint was beginning to age a bit and I was ready to move on to a new theme and update the mechanicals. The result was the GR8PMKN you see here. More in this stage The GR8PMKN became sort of a celebrity in its own right the next few years. Shown here at the ACES Chevell~abration Chevelle show in Nashville, TN in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003. The car was driven daily (weather permitting) and to numerous Chevelle shows; not only Chevell~abration but Midwest Chevelle Regional shows in Springfield, MO, Tulsa, OK, Wichita, KS, and my old home town, Kansas City and Good Guys shows in Kansas City, KS and Fort Worth, TX. The car was never trailered to any show and, in fact, was only on a trailer twice all the time I owned it; once to have exhaust installed and once due to a failed universal joint. Toss in several 1967 El Caminos, a 1969 Concours-optioned sport sedan, a 1999 S10 pickup, a 1996 BMW Z3 roadster, a 1974 454 Corvette and my current 2008 HHR SS and you'll see I enjoy a variety of automobiles. |

After retirement from over 30 years of military and government service I found it relaxing to do Chevrolet-related websites and showcase registries and that has kept me pretty busy. In 2016 I was approached to write a book on Chevelles and so, far, have five Chevelle-related books under my belt. See my Chevelle Books website for more on these. |
