Note: This has be successfully used with Google Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer up to and including IE8; it appears there is something in IE10/IE11 that prevents this decoder from working.
It should be noted that currently 1965 and 1966 Canadian Chevelle VINs are NOT supported at this time due to their unique format.
The 1967 Canadian Chevelles also had some unique series/models the U.S. did not have and, at least from one source, the 300 Deluxe series, El Camino, and Concours station wagons were not made in Canada but VINs for the models they did build are compatible.
ENTER VIN:
It should also be noted there are some other combinations
of plants and body styles that are error-trapped in the
VIN decoder code. The following are known but there are
a couple of other body styles/years that are suspect. What
this means is you could type in what appears to be a perfectly
valid VIN such as 136679A300001 and get a correctly decoded
result of a 1969 Malibu 2-door convertible from Atlanta
even though no such convertible was ever built there. If you receive an error you do not understand or feel the error is incorrect, contact me via my contact form.
Be sure to specify EXACTLY what you typed for the VIN and what the error message says.
Special thanks to Robert McIntosh for his efforts in the coding of this program.
The Oshawa, ON. assembly plant had a different schema with their VIN (or Chassis Serial) plate than the U.S. counterpart.
Example:
First Character: Model Year (5) [or '6' for 1966], Second, Third and Fourth Characters: Division/Series Designation - Chevrolet, L6 Malibu (135) Fifth and Sixth Characters: Body Style/Model - 4-door sedan (69) Seventh through Twelfth Digits: Sequential Production Number beginning with 000001 (050001).
There were no Chevelle 300 Deluxe series (133/134) Chevelles for Canada in 1967, only the Chevelle 300 (131/132) and the Malibu (135/136) series while other sources indicate the 300 Deluxe series was made in Canada in 1967. A couple of series & body styles were offered in Canada that were not available in the U.S. There was a 131/13267 Chevelle 300 convertible and 131/13235 station wagon. The Malibu SS sports option (RPO A51) was discontinued early in 1967 with the availability of the SS396 series.
