Chevelle Data and ID Guide

1964-1972 Chevelle Data & ID Guide
This 5x8 pocket guide is an invaluable resource of information and covers all models (300, 300 Deluxe, Malibu, Malibu SS, SS 396) and body styles (sedans, station wagons, sport coupes, convertibles, and sedan pickups) of Chevelle from 1964 through 1972 with 238 pages of color photos, facts on production numbers of each model in each year, interior trim codes, colors and availability for each year, engine codes, rear end axle codes, and a whole lot more.

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

This book covers the two SS options, SS 396 (RPO Z25) and SS 454 (RPO Z15), and what those two options came with as standard equipment and what was available as options. My 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS book is the first in a series of MUSCLE CARS IN DETAIL by Car Tech Books of muscle cars of the era.

Over 100 color and b/w photos of the cars, interiors, engines, and various options are found in this 6x9 guide. Facts are shown with documented proof and many, many myths and misconceptions are dispelled. Included are some rare photos of several design concepts and options contemplated for the 1970 Chevelle from General Motors Media Archives.

Two of the eras most successful quarter-mile race cars are highlighted, the Ray Allen-driven, Truppi/Kling tuned LS6 convertible that dominated SS/EA drag racing and the SuperBird from Chrysler with a 512-cubic inch "cheater" engine expressly built to taking out the Chevelle. Also highlighted is Bob Hamilton's well-known "Red Alert" LS6 sport coupe. This SS/DA Chevelle actually started life as a present for Mr. Hamilton's wife with options like power windows, vanity mirror, AM/FM stereo tape player and tilt steering column before finding its way to the drag strip.

Definitive Chevelle SS Guide 1964-1972

Chevrolet's Chevelle introduction into the growing midsize car market was met with great acceptance. The "Super Sport" nameplate was synonymous with Chevrolet and the Chevelle enhanced it from 1964 through 1972. Around 3,874,500 Chevelles were built for U.S. sale during this time. Of these, 554,695 were ordered as Malibu SS, SS 396, or SS-equipment-optioned Chevelles. One secret to the Chevelle's success was the multiple series and body styles that were available to fit just about anyone's needs.

Celebrate Chevrolet's wildly successful 1969 Chevelle SS 396 with this comprehensive publication that covers options for the engine, transmission, paint, aesthetics, and more! Chevrolet's marketing campaign for the 1969 Chevelle changed the SS 396 to an option (RPO Z25) instead of its own series. For this year only, the SS 396 Equipment option was offered on four different body styles (coupe, sport coupe, convertible, and sedan pickup) and in two series (300 Deluxe and Malibu). The clean styling and extended production year saw sales at 86,307 units sold with the SS 396 Equipment option, the all-time high watermark.

The SS 396 equipment option offered three engine packages: 325hp, 350hp, and 375 hp--the latter being available with an aluminum-head option (L89). Two SS 396-specific paint colors (Daytona Yellow and Hugger Orange) were available at a $42.15 charge adding a splash of brightness to the color chart palette. The 1969 year was the first time that an SS 396 Chevelle came with its own special wheels.

Leading Chevelle specialists contributed data to this book, certifying that the information presented is accurate and ensuring that 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396: Muscle Cars In Detail #12 will be a valued resource guide for years to come.
