[Q]: What is a Chevy II and what is a Nova? [A]: Good question. It all depends on the model year. In the early years the Nova was the upscale Chevy II much like a Malibu is an upscale Chevelle or Impala an upscale passenger car. 1962-1963 - Both the 100 series and 300 series were badged as a Chevy II while the 400 series was badged as a Nova. The Nova was the top of the line series 1964-1967 - The base 100 series was badged as a Chevy II and the 300 series was dropped in 1964. The Nova series continued to be the upscale trim and saw the introduction of the Nova Super Sport coupe. 1968 - Badged with Nova emblems it was now called a Chevy II Nova. 1969-1972 - The Chevy II name was dropped in favor of simply Nova. "Chevy II" badging was eliminated in favor of "Nova." [Q]: What year was the SS option introduced? [A]: The SS option first appeared with the 1963 model year. The SS option consisted of new emblems, a floor shifter, and bucket seats. The 1963 model year is also the only year a Nova SS convertible was offered. [Q]: When was the first V8 offered? [A]: The first V8 was offered in the 1964 model year, the venerable 283cid 195hp mouse motor. The 327cid engines were available in the 1965 model year. |
