Emission Systems - Positive Crankcase Ventilation

As its name implies the PCV system is intended to remove the cylinder blow-by gases from the crankcase and route them to the combustion chamber.
Introduced by Chevrolet as standard equipment in 1958 with the 348cid engine in heavy trucks and was incorporated as standard equipment in 1960 with the 261cid L6 engine. By 1961 the PCV system was used in all models built in California and by 1963 became standard equipment on all models.
Various designs were used over the years depending on the application needed.
AC Delco PCV valve CV-590C (#6421934) was used on 1967 Chevrolet 283 engines with positive crankcase ventilation.
