Interior Trim Codes

Trim numbers listed below are found on the Fisher Body plate located on the firewall. The models the particular trim code was available in is shown in italics. Links are provided to photos of interior colors that have been documented with body plate references. Atlanta, Flint, Framingham, and Kansas City would also include a -A or -B after the trim number to reflect bench or bucket seat where Baltimore and Fremont did not. In fact, the -A or -B was not necessary as the trim number itself was only applicable to a bench or bucket seat type. Baltimore and Fremont were both General Motors Assembly Division (GMAD) plants and other GM models were built there along side the Chevelle. Why Atlanta, Flint, Framingham, and Kansas City chose to include the -A or -B designator is unclear. In addition to -A and -B suffixes, -S has been found on several trim tags where optional headrests are found.

Imitation Leather was GM's sales name for vinyl. No real leather interiors were installed in Chevelles.
Where an imitation leather seat is two-tone or cloth/imitation leather seat is listed, the inset color is listed first.
It should also be noted that this was the last year the El Camino body style had it's own trim code number for the exact same trim that might be found in a Malibu or SS 396 series.

To date, no SS 396 series has been found with this two-tone combination. Likewise the 731 trim code is shown available in both the Malibu and SS 396 sport coupes and convertibles. Also note description of "Medium Bright Blue" and "Dark Bright Blue" as opposed to simply "Dark Blue" and "Medium Blue" of the combination above. As with trim code 729, no SS 396 series has been found with this two-tone combination but has been found with the single Medium Bright Blue style. ⁽²⁾ Trim code 760 is listed in the Exterior-Interior Colors matrix but is not listed in Trim Combination Chart, Chevrolet P&A Catalog, August 1972 Revision 30A. Whether this code exists or not is questionable since it's listed for 13617 & 13639 (not available for 13669) and trim code 761 (also black bench seat) is listed for 13617, 13639, & 13669 only. In any event, no trim tag with the 760 code has been found to date. Trim codes found on trim tags that do not correspond to the GM docs above include 709, 747, 776, 787, 777, and 797.
