According to accepted production numbers, these engine sizes break down as follows:
350-4 cid V8 - 12,496 (RPO L48)
396-4 cid V8 - 10,773 (RPO L35)
396-4 cid V8 - 4,575 (RPO L78) (272 w/L89 aluminum head option)

Note the difference between the big block engine stamping (top image) and the small block engine stamping (lower image).  The Tonawanda engine plant stamped their engine date and identification code on the left side of the engine pad and the assembly plant stamped their partial VIN on the right.  The Flint engine plant stamped their engine date and identification code on the right side of the pad and the assembly planted stamped their partial VIN on the left.
