1964 Malibu SS

Fisher Body Number Plate - Atlanta, Georgia Assembly Plant (AT)

Body plates at Atlanta used group option codes where applicable. Body dates of months 1 through 9 were padded with a leading zero to make a 3-character body date. Atlanta did not make a distinction between an inline 6-cylinder engine and a V8 engine with the style number. This means that whether a Malibu SS sport coupe was to be built with an inline 6-cylinder engine or a V8 engine, Atlanta still shows the style as 5837 on the body plate. Atlanta used the same blank Fisher Body Number plate throughout the 1964 model year.

The blank plate has the text CHEVROLET DIV. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. and DETROIT, MICHIGAN on the first two lines and THIS CAR FINISHED WITH Magic-Mirror ACRYLIC LACQUER and BODY BY FISHER on the bottom three lines.

The words STYLE, AT, BODY on the third line were consistent along with TRIM and PAINT on the fourth line and ACC. on the fifth line. The body date, style year and number, body number, trim code, paint code, and any accessory (group option number and letter) codes were stamped for the specific car as it was scheduled for production.

Atlanta used a hyphen character between the year and style number such as 64-5837 as well as a hyphen between the plant designation letters AT and the body number such as AT-005763. The body number was padded with leading zeros to make a 6-digit number such as 005763.

Several body styles were built at the Euclid, Ohio Fisher Body plant including convertibles and 300 series 2-door station wagons for final assembly at Atlanta. See the Euclid plant for details.
