This means it is virtually impossible to know how many of any particular series and model came with any combination of options such as how many convertibles were built with a 4-speed and/or a specific optional engine or how many 2-door sport coupes came with a radio.

(1) Many of these options were available in other 1967 Chevelle series as well. The only option unique to the SS 396 is RPO D96, wide paint stripe.

(2) The vinyl stripe (RPO Z29) was part of the SS 396 series. It is surmised that since some plants (such as Fremont) show the Z29 stripe on their build sheets, the numbers were reported like any other 'option.' If you subtract the number of optional RPO D96 stripe options (4,770) from the total number of SS 396 sport coupes and convertibles (63,006), you will have a difference of 13,426 SS 396 Chevelles that did not have the Z29 stripe reported as an option.
