1967 SS 396Fisher Body Number Plate - Kansas City, Missouri Assembly Plant (KAN)Body plates at Kansas City used group option codes where applicable. Body dates of months 1 through 9 were padded with a leading zero to make a 3-character body date. Kansas City did not make a distinction between an inline 6-cylinder engine and a V8 engine with the style number. This means that whether a Malibu sport coupe was to be built with an inline 6-cylinder engine or a V8 engine, Kansas City still shows the style as 13617 on the body plate. Naturally since the SS 396 was it's own series, the style number will always be 13817 or 13867. The blank plate has the text GENERAL MOTORS COPORATION on the first line and BODY BY FISHER on the bottom lines. The words/abbreviation ST (for Fisher Body style), KAN, BODY on the second line were consistent along with TR (for interior trim) and PAINT on the third line. The body date, style year and number, body number, trim code, paint code, and any group option number and letter codes were stamped for the specific car as it was scheduled for production. Kansas City used a hyphen character between the year and style number such as 67-13817, a blank space (or spaces) between if the plant designation letters KAN and the body number if necessary to fill a 5-character space such as KAN 348 or KAN17705. The last line (or two lines if needed) are for group option codes. Kansas City plates will have a 4-digit number following the body date. This is an internal plant Job Number for tracking purposes and has no significance today concerning things like options. Kansas City trim codes have an -A or -B following the 3-digit trim code number; -A noted a bench seat and -B noting bucket seats. This a bit redundant since bench and bucket seats of the same color have different 3-digit trim code numbers. Kansas City also used a -S when optional headrests were ordered; a black headrest optioned with bucket seats would show 763-S.
