1969 SS 396

Paint Colors

No less than 15 solid colors and six 2-tone color combinations were offered in 1969. There were two SS 396-specific paint colors, Hugger Orange and Daytona Yellow(1), even then it was an additional $12.15 option. Any other color could be ordered on any 1969 Chevelle. Plants used numbers to specify the colors available on the Fisher Body Number plate (aka, trim tag) and a letter for a vinyl or convertible top color when so equipped. The 1969 model year offered black, parchment, dark blue, dark brown, and midnight green as vinyl top color choices and white or black convertible top colors.

Either color could be ordered as special paint. Several 1969 COPO Chevelles were also done in these two colors.

Sales name often differed from the plant paint name and the sales name could vary between Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile A-body cars even though the plant paint name was the same. For example, Chevrolet's "Tuxedo Black" sales name was Buick's "Regal Black." Chevrolet's "Ermine White" sales name was Oldsmobile's "Provincial White." Same colors just a different sales names.
