1971 Chevelle Tachometer
Two different tachometer ranges were offered in 1971. One for small-block V8s with the redline at 5000 (code 405), and one for the LS3 and LS5 (code 406) with the redline at 5500.
Tachometer Broadcast Codes
Broadcast code 405 - redline 5000 - L65 and L48 350cid engines
Broadcast code
406 - redline 5500 - LS3 402cid and LS5 454cid engines
The tachometer redline might also give you some indication of which engine was installed. Both have the same range, 0-7000, but the redline differs depending on engine.
1. The two 350 engines tachometers redline at 5000 RPM
(broadcast code 405).
2. The 402/330 (LS3) and 454/360 (LS5) engines
tachometers redline at 5500 RPM (broadcast code 406).
