1971 SS-Optioned Malibu

The SS option itself

The SS Equipment option was now more of a appearance option rather than a performance option.

For sport coupes, and convertibles, the SS only required an optional engine and optional transmission.  For the first time the SS-optioned Chevelle could be ordered with either 350cid engine and TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. The SS equipment option included power disc/drum brakes, black-accented grille, special domed hood with locking pins, LH outside remote mirror, SS emblems on grille, fenders, rear bumper, and steering wheel, sport suspension, 15" x 7" wheels with bright lug nuts and special center caps and trim rings, F60-15 white lettered tire and function symbol on instrument panel knobs.

Only the SS454 have the engine size on the fender emblems - all others only have the SS emblem.

The radio knobs, lighter knob, and headlamp knob have international symbols on all SS-equipment optioned Chevelles

Rear Sway Bar - RPO F41

For 1972, RPO F41 was part of both the Z15 SS equipment option. The El Camino could not be ordered with the F41 option due to the standard rear air shock absorbers that were standard on all El Caminos regardless of any SS equipment option.
