1970 Chevelle Build Sheet

Oshawa, Ontario

GM of Canada was kind of unique. They built Chevelles that were designated to be "exported" to the U.S. as well as for Canadian sale. For example, GM of Canada reports that 42,594 Chevelles were built in Canada for sale in the U.S. Oshawa reportedly assembled 71,980 Chevelles in 1970. This accounted for 10.91% of all 1970 Chevelle production.

GM of Canada also "imported" Chevelles from U.S. plants when the necessity arose. Some noted "imports" are all El Caminos and all LS6 optioned Chevelles, neither of which were built in Canada. GM of Canada's Vintage Vehicle Service can, for a fee, research a Chevelle's VIN to see if it was either built in Canada or built in the U.S. and sold originally through a Canadian dealer; all you need to do is supply the VIN.  See http://vintagevehicleservices.com for more details.

GM of Canada did not use the same paperwork on the assembly line as the U.S. so there are no "build sheets" as such found in a Canadian-built Chevelle. GM of Canada-built Chevelles are often found with what's commonly called a "Line Sequence Tag."
