Generator - Group 2.275
The 1966 Chevelle came with one of 4 alternating current generators (commonly referred to as alternators since they produce alternating current) depending on the engine and extra cost options such as air conditioning. Part numbers shown below are original part numbers and this number would be stamped on the top of the unit.
Be aware that if you purchased a replacement generator from a Chevrolet dealer or other remanufacturer, these numbers may or may not appear on the unit. GM dealer replacement generators carried different part numbers in 1972 and may be different yet today. These generators also fit multiple years and multiple Chevrolet series. Finding the 'correct' case for one today can sometimes be a challenge.

Date codes on generators are in the format of calendar year (not model year)/a letter for the month (excluding the letter "I")/day of the month.

Late March, 1966 introduction of the 327/350HP L79 saw the generator
fan #3875968 w/AW broadcast code.
Top generator brace #3884506 for 396 engine. Note small bracket on top
engine mounting hole for throttle return spring. The 1967 396 engine
used a similar brace (#3884508) that did not incorporate this throttle
return spring bracket.

On all V8 engines, the top brace should go behind the generator and
the flat washer, lock washer, and retaining bolt are installed from
the back side.
