1971 Camaro Fisher Body Number Plate

The Fisher Body Number Plate (commonly known as 'trim tag,' 'cowl tag,' 'firewall tag,' etc.) was affixed to the body by the Fisher Body division. Each assembly plant (Los Angeles and Norwood) had their own standard operating procedure (SOP) as to what was depicted on the plate.
Los Angeles
Line 1
- ST 71-12487 ~ Year, 1971. The body style number 12487 was used for both 6- and 8-cylinder engine Camaros.
- L ~ GM plant designation for the assembly plant in Los Angeles, California
- 10682 ~ GMAD Fisher Body unit number
Line 2
- TR 775 ~ Interior trim code black vinyl
- 26 26 PNT ~ Lower and upper body color Mulsanne Blue. If a Camaro was ordered with the optional vinyl roof, the second number would change to a letter indicating the vinyl top color; for example 26 B would be Mulsanne Blue with a black vinyl roof cover.
Line 3
- 03C ~ Body assembly date; 03 is the month (March) and C is the third week.
- 656971 190261 ~ These are various data processing numbers from the build sheet. They are of no consequence unless you have the build sheet and these numbers are present.
Note there is nothing on the Los Angeles body plate to indicate any options (other than a vinyl top) such as the Rally Sport, Super Sport, or Special Engine (Z28) options.
Norwood
Line 1

- Z28 19 ~ Unlike the Los Angeles assembly plant, Norwood did indicate the Special Engine option , RPO Z28, on the body plate. The number 19 is the hood & deck stripe color.
