2008 Trivia

New for 2008 was the LS3 engine. This engine was standard for both the base coupe and base convertible and increased cubic inches from 364 cubic inches to 376 cubic inches along with a 30 horsepower increase over the previous LS2 engine; 400 horsepower vs. 430 horsepower. The LS3's compression ratio was lowered to accommodate GM's desire to have all engines capable of running on E85 ethanol-blended fuel.

When the Z06 was ordered, one portion of that option was the 7.0L, 505 horsepower LS7 engine.

A new "Dual Mode Exhaust System" was offered under RPO NPP for base coupes and convertibles. This incorporated vacuum-actuated outlet valves controlled by engine RPM and throttle position and used 2.5-inch diameter pipes. The system increased the LS3's horsepower from 430 to 436.

As an option on the base coupe and convertible, rear gearing for the new automatic was offered with a 2.73:1 ratio. This gear set was standard when the Z51 performance package was ordered the same gear set was included.

A limited edition Z06 with a 427 cubic inch engine to commemorate the Bowling Green's retiring plant manger, Will Cooksey. These limited edition models were only available in Crystal Red and were outfitted with Dark titanium interiors, 10-spoke wheels, and special graphics. Mr. Cooksey autographed all 505 units making them a bit more collectible than a 'standard' Z06.

The 2008 Corvette key fob now featured a removable door key.

Additional interior refinements were part of the 3LZ and 4LT option packages that included a leather wrapped instrument panel, door panels, and console. The 4LT option also included Corvette cross-flags embroidered on the headrests.

The Hertz Special Edition was limited to 500 units. All units were painted in Velocity Yellow and equipped with the GCA Ultimate Exterior Appearance Package with specially designed screen meshing over the side covers, a special mesh grille, and exhaust plate screens, an underhood blanket/lamp, a special graphics package, an accessory spoiler, body-color door handles, and seven-spoke polished wheels in place of the standard wheels.
