Chevrolet did not retain any records on combinations of options. This means it is impossible to know how many of any particular series and model came with any combination of options such as how many convertibles were built with a 4-speed and/or a specific optional engine or how many 2-door sport coupes came with a radio.
Only known options reported by Chevrolet are listed as per report verbiage. The Quantity Reportedly Sold column indicates the particular RPO item when sold as an option and not when included as part of a base equipment or multiple item option package. An example is the 396/325hp L35 engine; 1,865 were sold as an option available in the pickup body style (134/13680). Since this engine was part of the base SS 396 series, the number of L35 engines installed in SS 396 Chevelles is not listed. Other examples are such engines as the base I6 and base V8 engines even though these base engines carried an RPO number for accountability purposes.
One exception to the above rule is the Z19 Vinyl Stripe. According to all Chevrolet literature discovered so far, one feature of the SS 396 series was the vinyl stripe along the lower body panels with the D96 Wide Paint Stripe - Side being optional. If one takes the total number of 1967 SS 396 sport coupes (59,685) and convertibles (3,321) sold (63,006 total) and subtract the number of D96 Wide Paint Stripe options sold (4,470) it results in 58,536 SS 396 Chevelles that would have retained the standard, narrow stripes. GM reports 49.580 of the Z19 stripe options sold, or a difference of 8,956 (58,536-49,580).
Since there are no other stripe options listed for any 1967 Chevelle it's reasoned that (1) either all GM literature about the narrow stripes being standard fare with the SS 396 series is incorrect or (2) when GM accumulated the numbers for reported options sold, the standard narrow stripes were counted at some plants but not others. As with such items as the base I6 and base V8 engines listed above, all installed items such as this had an RPO code even though it was not an item one could order as a separate option, it still had to be accounted for.
Line items with
are items shown on some dealer new car records but not shown as options reported by GM.

(1) For GM of Canada, A51 was a Sport Option that came with buckets, console (although some have been found with column shift and no console), P01 wheel covers (now with ‘SS’ center emblems), while GM gave the wheel opening moldings and ribbed rockers from the SS 396 to you in place of the usual Malibu fare (lower body side moldings that ran aft of the front wheel to the back bumper). The ‘Malibu SS’ emblem was again employed. The front and rear styling was regular Malibu, with no ‘Big Block’ hoods being used even with a 396, and the rear was pure Malibu. They didn’t even get any special rear end paint, Argent, black or otherwise, to distinguish a Malibu SS. The wood grained dash strip was used, along with the Malibu script about the glove box. At least the horn button said ‘SS’ instead of ‘Chevelle.’
(2) GM of Canada only for two-tone special paint and vinyl top.
Other notable options not listed by GM for U.S. production but rather by GM of Canada for export use only.
