Camaro SS (1967-1973) Chevelle SS396/SS454/Malibu SS (1964-1973) Chevy II/Nova SS (1962-1973) Full-size Passenger Car SS (1961-1969) The Camaro lineup has a variety of Super Sport, or SS, options. 1967
The 1967 SS option was available with the 350-cid L48
engine initially and later with one of two 396-cid
engines (L35 and L78). The SS options could be ordered in combination with
the Rally Sport (RPO Z22) option. When the two were
combined, the SS option badging took precedence over the
RS badging. 1968The 1968 SS option was available with the 350-cid L48
engine or one of three 396-cid engines (L35, L34, and
L78). Both assembly plants stopped using group option
codes for 1968 so there is nothing on the Fisher Body
Number Plate to prove or disprove an SS option claim.
Badging was now consistent with just "SS" on the
grille, fenders, and gas cap. Like 1967, the RS option
could be combined with the SS engines with the SS
badging taking precedence over the RS badging.
1969The SS option (RPO Z27) featured blacked-out grille and, on light colored 396cid engine optioned Camaros, a blacked-out rear tail panel with SS badging on both front and back. The blacked-out rear tail panel was not used with the L48 350cid engine, only the 396cid engine. The SS option was not engine specific but did require either the L48 350cid engine or one of the three 396cid engines. See CamaroWorld for more specifics.
1970The Super Sport option added and/or change some items
from the base model
