This box contains either a 4-letter code or 5 hyphens

This box contains a 2-letter code CN

Box 69: STRG WHL
This box contains a 2-letter code for the steering wheel. Sometime between 1219 and 0104 the code changed from KA to AB for the standard SS steering wheel.
AB - standard black SS steering wheel beginning at least 01-06
AK - RPO NK1 cushioned rim steering wheel
KX - standard black SS steering wheel up to at least 12-16

Box 70: STRG COLUMN
This box contains a 2-letter code for the steering column. (It should be noted that all SS-optioned Chevelle steering columns were black.)
CG - M40 transmission w/column shift
CH - M40 transmission w/floor shift
CI - M40 transmission w/column shift and tilt
CJ - M40 transmission w/floor shift and tilt
CX - manual transmission
CZ - manual transmission with tilt (no examples to date but follows other plants)

All SS-optioned Chevelles will show BLACK in this box.

Box 72: TACH
If the Chevelle was ordered with RPO U14 Instrument Panel gauges, a 3-digit number will be coded for the redline of the tachometer. If RPO U14 was not ordered this box will have 3 hyphens ( --- ).
938 - 5,000 redline not used with SS options
985 - 5,500 redline used on base L34 engine
983 - 6,500 redline used on optional L78 and LS6 engines

Box 73: SPEEDO CABLE
This box contains a 2-letter code for the speedometer cable to be used.
CR - M40 through at leeast 12-16
CR -- - M40 after at least 01-06
CS - manual through at least 12-05
CS -- manual after at least 03-11

This box contains a 4-digit number
6653 - Its meaning is unknown as both codes have been found on all models regardless of engine or rear axle gear ratio or any other decernable option.
8165 - Its meaning is unknown and found only on one LS5 dated 02-24

Box 75: CTRL. ARMS FRT.
This box contains two 2-letter codes. All SS-optioned Chevelles have XU XF in this box.

Box 76: CTRL. ARMS REAR
This box contains a 4-letter codes.All sport coupes and convertibles have NUHD, NHHD, in this box to at least 04-27. Engine, transmission, etc. do not seem to a deciding factor.
HJHD - Found after 05-27
NHEE - El Camino after at least 11-28
NMEE - El Camino up to at least 11-13
NHHD - Found between 09-24 and 04-27
NUHD - Only found on 02-18 and 02-21
