The "fastback" coupe design was replaced with a quasi-solid top with removable panels for the driver and passenger side resulting in a T-Top configuration. Door openers were now a push button and a handle that had to be depressed to open the doors. The auxiliary hardtop for convertibles featured a glass rear window. The Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission was replaced with a new 3-speed automatic transmission. The 'gills' on the front fenders would change from year to year. A fiber-optic system was adapted for the tail lamps and license plate lamp; these indicators were located on the console just below the transmission shifter. "Astro-Ventilation" was introduced this year to aid in airflow throughout the cabin. The Corvette Sing Ray designation was gone, but only for 1968. It would return as "Stingray" for 1969. The 1968 model year would be the last year for the 327 cid V8 engine. For the first time all engines have flash-chromed rocker arm covers.
The coupe designation was no longer a fastback style of the C2 years but rather a solid top with removable panels for driver and passenger for a T-Top configuration.
Conventional door handles were replaced with a button to actuate the
door latch. The recessed 'flap' is just used as a hand gold and give
some leverage in depressing the door latch button.
Only 80 RPO L88 engine options were sold. Maybe due to the $947.90
cost?
1968 would be the last year that headrests (RPO A82) were an option.
