On May 7, 1979, many former options such as tilt-telescopic steering columns, air conditioning, and power windows became standard equipment bumping the 1979 Corvette's base price to over $10,000 for the first time, $10,220.23 to be exact. By the end of the production year additional options pushed the car's base price over $12,000. An 85-mph speedometer slated for the 1980 model year was used in several late-build 1979s. The front and rear spoilers developed for the 1978 pace car became options for 1979.
The 1979 model year remains the most productive year with 53,807 total Corvettes built.
