The 1969 Corvette saw the return of the "Stingray" name
plate but this time as one word as opposed to the 1963-1967 "Sting
Ray" as two words.
Like other Chevrolet makes, the ignition switch was moved from the dash to the steering column and the steering wheel was reduced from a 16-inch diameter unit to a 15-inch diameter unit. The base 327-cid engine was replaced with a 300 hp 350-cid V8 with several 427 cid engines being offered. The side exhaust was now optional. A manual 3-speed was still the base transmission, three manual 4-speed transmissions were available as well as the TH400 3-speed automatic. A labor dispute in May caused the production of the 1969 model year to be extended for four months cutting into the 'normal' 1970 model year production. Headrests (RPO A82) became mandatory as of January 1, 1969 but all 1969 Corvettes were equipped with them along with the $17.95 'option' cost. The two ZL1 optioned 1969 Corvettes here. All 427 engines have flash-chromed rocker arm covers while the 327 engines have finned rocker arm covers but without a Corvette script.
1969 saw a change in the door lock/door handle arrangement from 1968.
The door lock was simply a door lock. The door handle actuator was incorporated
into the flapper.
