Black as an exterior paint color made a comeback in 1977. The "Sting Ray" script was removed from the front fenders in favor of a simple crossed flags emblem. The engine color was changed from the long standing Chevrolet Orange to Corporate Blue sometime between August and September. Leather seats were now standard but cloth inserts were an option. A voltmeter replaced the ammeter, the "Door Ajar" and "Headlamp Up" warning lights were discarded. White stripe tires were no longer on the option list, only white lettered tires.

As in 1977, the base price of the Corvette took another dramatic upswing from $7,604.85 to $8,647.00 probably due to the standard leather interior and power steering/brakes were now standard as well. The 500,000th Corvette was built on March 15, 1977 and is on display at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

All engines were equipped with a single 4-bbl carburetor. All California-bound Corvettes have Air Injector Reactor, all others use Controlled Combustion System for emissions control. Data are from GM's own Information Kit and some engines may or may not have made production.
