The 1969 model year saw minor revisions of the body styles from 1968. The Malibu series received GM's "Hide-A-Way" windshield wiper system that moved the wipers below the hood level when in their parked position while the 300 and 300 Deluxe series could only order the feature as an option under RPO C24 and only 706 buyers did just that.
The Nomad station wagon retained its nameplate from 1968 in the 300 series. The Nomad Custom station wagon nameplate was replaced with Greenbrier station wagon for the 300 Deluxe series. The Concours station wagon nameplate replaced the Malibu station wagon in the Malibu series and a Concours Estate nameplate took over the 13836/46 series. These two Concours Estate station wagons are the only two 138xx series Chevelles for 1969.
To confuse the Concours name further, the Malibu series sport sedan (13x39) offered a Concours option under RPO ZJ6. Only 2,022 such sport sedans were ordered with this option that included "Concours" badging, faux wood grain trim on the center horn bar and dash trim, special ribbed rear tail panel filler and an exclusive interior offered in black, blue, or green.
A number of firsts were on tap for 1969. The SS 396 as a series was gone. In its place was a new RPO Z25 SS Equipment option. For the 1969 model year only, the Z25 SS Equipment option could not only be ordered with the Malibu sport coupe, convertible, or El Camino but could now be ordered with the 13427 and 13437 300 Deluxe coupe and sport coupe. See the SS 396 section for more details.
The 1969 model year standard stripe was a twin pinstripe running the length of the car at the belt line. The stripe was standard on 135-136xx Malibu series Chevelles, the Concours station wagon and the 135-13680 Malibu series El Camino. More often than not, this twin pinstripe is not painted back on when the car is repainted; either the owner could not find someone qualified to replicate the twin pinstripes, the painter simply did not know they were standard, or the owner wanted a 'clean' look without them.
