Introduction - 1964

The 1964 model year Chevelle was formally unveiled on September 26, 1963 by General Motors' Chevrolet Division general manager, Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen.

The 1964 Chevelle was offered in 13 body styles with a choice of two 6-cylinder engines or four 8-cylinder engines in any series or body style.

Bucket seats were an option only with the sedan pickup and only by ordering one of the three colors available for the sedan pickup. Bucket seats were standard equipment with both the Malibu SS sport coupe and Malibu SS convertible.

A buyer had a total of 15 solid paint colors and 11 two-tone paint schemes to choose from. Color choices were limited somewhat by the body style; convertibles with a soft top were not considered a two-tone, sedan pickups and station wagons were limited to solid paint colors only. One color, Goldwood Yellow, was reserved for the Malibu SS series and not available with any other series.
