All 1968 Chevelle station wagons and sedan pickups have vented gas caps, all others have non-vented gas caps.
Several new station wagon nameplates was introduced for 1968; the 131/13235 Nomad and the 133/13435 Nomad. Neither would have any relationship to the 1955-1957 Chevrolet Nomad station wagons.
The 1968 model year is the first (and last) year the SS 396 El Camino was its own series - 13880.
The 2-door pillared body style name changed from "sedan" to "coupe" for 1968 and reverted back to the 1964-1965 body style number of "17." The 4-door pillared sedan retained its "sedan" name. Only the 131/13217 and 133/13417 Fisher Body style designations were offered in the 2-door "coupe" body style.
All 1968 SS 396 body style have the lower rocker panels below the side trim moldings painted black while Malibus were painted lower body color.
The basic steel wheel with hub cap were standard with the SS 396. Rally wheels became an option for the first time along with several wheel cover options. Wheels are painted lower body color except when full wheel covers are ordered, they the wheels are painted black.

The wheelbases changed for several models: 2-door coupes, sport coupes,
and convertibles were now 112.0-inches and 4-door sedans, sport sedans,
station wagons, and sedan pickups are now 116.0-inches. See

Three horsepower rating 396cid engines were available; the base 325hp,
the optional RPO L34 rated at 350hp, and the RPO L78 rated at 375hp.

The base and Malibu series sedan pickup could no longer order any 396cid
engine with the introduction of the SS 396 sedan pickup.
A bench seat was standard for all series and models. The SS 396 bench
seat was all vinyl while other series/models were cloth & vinyl
with the exception of convertibles and sedan pickups that were all vinyl.
Bucket seats were an option under RPO A51 and only available with
the Malibu & SS 396 series sport coupe or convertible as well as
the Malibu series sedan pickup.
Three "Concours" options were introduced in March, one for
the Malibu 4-door sedan (RPO ZK5), one for the 4-door sport sedan (RPO
ZK6), and one for the Malibu sport coupe (RPO ZK7). These are not to
be confused with the Concours station wagon. These featured a "Concours"
nameplate in place of the "Malibu" nameplate on the front
fenders and ribbed panel between the tail lamps along with such luxuries
as extra sound deadening and Buick, Oldsmobile, or Pontiac interiors
when black bucket seat interiors were ordered. When a bench seat was
